You are such a wonderful writer. I want to relax in the Georgian Deal cottage, reading your writing...

On the way to Deal, there is a road sign with one way pointing to 'Ham' and the other 'Sandwich'.

I simply have to tell you how much I appreciated, "They will make you wet. Because of their proximity to the sea". xx

The Deal House is so good. We tried to be similarly colourful on ours (36andtheroxy.co.uk if you want a nose) but haven't hit quite such dizzying heights... though we've still got two rooms to renovate, so you never know.

Obviously lusting after the 70s pad though, you always want what you don't have and I do not have an indoor sex pond.

PS I think your dining room might actually be painted in Celeriac Bunting Divorce.

Have never done a Somerset search for 'Axbridge' and now getting excited about a whole new opportunity. Send more links!

Haha, thank you! Axbridge is lovely, a little hidden gem we had no idea about either before we did the typical escape from London thing - but because it's got a little town square with two pubs and two cafes, it's really sociable. Good schools and 30-40 mins from Bristol mean there's loads of youngish people here too.

The town (2000 people but still got that medieval town charter) is built around a Square, with buildings dating from the late 1400s (this is Barry's house https://www.thedrugstoregallery.com/ , one of the oldest, the Museum https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/somerset/king-johns-hunting-lodge and the Lamb https://butcombe.com/the-lamb/ , all, pretty ancient though the Lamb's had so many renos it's a bit of a sad mishmash inside). Then there's the old High Street, which we're at the top of, and a load of ancient doors and frontages to admire. Sadly not many shops these days, but, you know, three hair dressers so that's nice.

You can see little snippets of the town in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder on iPlayer, and Dawn French is here this week filming a new comedy. We're so hot right now.

You've just missed a few mad places that were up for sale - https://www.comptonhse.com/ was on the market last year, though I'm not sure it sold. And the old Nursing home may or may not have sold, as well as the old Cheshire home behind the town on the hill, complete with its tuberculosis cemetery.

Big old places come up for sale relatively regularly because there's still a lot of cold, drafty old houses that are really time consuming and/or expensive to do up. Ours took us 3 years of hard graft between the two of us, but we spent all our money on buying the house so had to do it all, because we are not sensible people. Cannot wait to actually live in it though, we've done three years of squatting in a tiny studio flat adjoining, scraping back some of our costs renting out the main house.

This is literally my dream comment. All the intel I live for. Have already been looking at the town square on streetview and thinking what a sociable place that would have been to bring up my daughter. CURSES.

Haha, yep it's pretty great if you're able to get away from city living. It's not perfect of course - where is - but it's a lovely place to be. You just have to work that much harder for really good food and culture, but it's find-able!

I think I must be afraid of death as all I can see in the 1970s shag-pad is ways to slip and die, OR make it look like someone 'accidentally' slipped and died. I'm looking at you in particular marble 'bath'.
