This is wonderful. A ringing, resounding YES to this. "If we mature our money for the things we love, the hope is that we won’t spend the rest of our lives paying off the debts on things we only liked." And I am going to apply it to my Vinted "habit". x
But the eye cream is different to the face lotion. I am not meant to put face lotion on my eyes. Neither directly on them nor around my eye area. And the eye cream is too expensive to put on my face. Maybe I'll just wither away?
I loved this, thank you! As a fellow hoarder and prolific buyer of Things To Make Me Happy, Today, this really landed. There’s a certain irony in the first thing I googled after reading being “Joan Mitchell 1983 Untitled how much?” but I have discovered it went for some $225000 last time it was sold by Bonhams and that isn’t quite within my budget for Nice Stuff anyway so it’s all good. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of the not buying as a thing soon
Ahahahahaha I would probably have googled that too. Was sort of hoping people would squint and think it said Joni Mitchell. Why yes, I’ve got Joni illustrating my newsletter now.
"The ingredients in this elbow cream do not know that they are elbow cream." - BRILLIANT - it's something that has niggled away at me for years, and I'm glad to see I'm not crazy! Thanks for the inspiration!
So i somehow stumbled on this post and was immediately hooked - may be it was the reassurances ( you need not know all about Shakespeare, to enjoy Shakespeare; decluttering is not as easy as it is made out to be). But then half way through the piece, I got busy with something else and all the while, your unread piece kept calling me back.
When i finally sat down to read, I couldn't find it. I had had the link open along with other links but repeated clicking didn't take me to the post. I decided to give up beacuse I couldn't recall what the lovely piece was about - not a thing, or who the author was. I was miffed at myself and at the same time amused at the feeling of loss ( what could be so good that It is nagging me this much). I decided that in future I would always save a post I like first, so as to not lose it.
Today, I open my lap top and I magically find your piece. I had both Bing and Google Chrome open simultaneously and I was looking for it on Chrome, while it was on Bing!
Relieved, I immediately read it and absolutely love it!
Vijaya this story is a pure tickler to someone who loses as many tabs as I do (and still can’t work out where the noise is coming from). I hope I can call to you again xx
1.This is the best inspo for decluttering that I've ever read - empty space as aspirational!
2. I honestly thought that drawing was by your daughter before I read the caption
3. I wish I could afford to subscribe... Things are tight... One day!
i agree. ive actually just thrown a couple of things away....
but the ingredients in this elbow cream do not know that they are elbow cream. 🤣

Yes! This is the single best reasoning for Not Buying The Things that I’ve ever read. Thank you! Worth this month’s Substack for sure :)

Fabulous painting! And sorely needed help with “national debris pile”.,( my own).
Ahh you sound like a true Heawood. The National Debris Pile is something we know well. Could probably sell tickets.
